Should They Combine The First and Second Book?

Which actors would you like to cast? What do you want to see? What would you do if you were the director?

I was appalled when I heard that! No, they shouldn't! When a book generally becomes a movie they screw it up pretty bad. I think combining both books into one is a terrible idea. Like people have stated above, there's just too much of a time passage between the two books. >.<
I also thought I read something somewhere that he was gonna give it a different ending as well?!

Combine them? No way! It's just gonna confuse the viewers who haven't read the books yet. I really hope they don't mess this up :(

My opinion is that it would be a mistake to combine the first two books. But. As long as Colfer is the one who did the writing, and did the combining, I'm hoping they can't mess it up to badly. It could be like how I think of LotR: the books and the movies are completely different animals. I almost classify them as different fandoms. They're different, and they were changed, but they were amazing in their own way. I'm hoping that's how it'll work out with AF as well.

exactly! why can't those lazies just make 2 movies! We can wait for the sequel! the first and second together will be a train reck. it will probably turn out like this:
Artemis kidnaps Holly and then there's the negotiating and the troll and the actual delivering of the ransom.
then, the LEP pick Holly up and they say; The b'wa kell are acting up again!
Holly; i never get a break, let's go.
LEP: we don't know what to do.
Holly and lep: *goes to plaza and thinks*
Artemis:*gets email from Mafiya*
holly:*comes back*
Artemis and Butler: *gets knocked out with mesmer by Holly*
Holly: *takes em down to plaza*
Artemis and Butler:*wakes up*
Butler: Why did you knock us out?!
LEP: We you to do the Lep's dirty work. What's your price Fowl?
Artemis: I want to rescue my father from the Mafiya well we're at it.
Lep; Mafiya as in Artic?
Artemis: Yes.
Lep; No.
Artemis: Then no deal.
Lep: Fine, we'll get your daddy you whinny brat.
(you all know what happens next. Koboi, weapons shut off, Foaly trapped, etc...)
Now do you really wanna watch that?

When I saw that they were thinking about combining the first two books into one movie, I just about cried! The story arch for the first movie would get totally ruined if that happened. The climax to me is when Arty, Butler, and Juliet have the bubble water toast, and if that's in the middle of the movie it would just be wrong. I'd rather them make a shorter movie and do it right.

It sounds like Guardian's of Ga'hoole was done that way. I haven't read those books yet, but when I watched the movie there were definate holes (like things were sped up too much or something).

I hope they don't mess up AF too much by trying to combine too many different storylines. Those books have such potential for being amazing movies!

The thing most people don't seem to get is that they (more than likely) won't just skip to the second book just like that. They'll take parts of the books and move them around a bit. Here's an example:
-Artemis gets the book
-He kidnaps Holly
-He talks about how he misses his father at some point
-He gets the email from the Russians
-They all somehow get to work together and look for his father in return for Holly and some of the ransom
-Opal plots from the start and eventually causes some kind of distress, leading to the goblin thing
-Mulch appears at some point
-After everything works out Mulch takes the money.
I'm not fond of the idea myself, I'd much prefer to have seprate movies.
Eion probaly wanted to fit them together so in case the movie was a flop, and another one wasn't made, new fans would want to know "what happened to the LEP gold that Mulch stole? What happened to such and such, etc"... :?

Now, you did cheer me up a bit but now youve probably guessed the whole movie! Not much point in seeing it now. :(

I think they should combine them, because then there won't be a long wait between the first and second books.

Seriously, no. That would just be bad. I mean, It would be like putting bananas and yogurt into a smoothie recipe at the same time when you're supposed blend in between, just because you're too lazy to do the blending.

If the two books are combined, I shall kill the director. And possibly some of the less important actors, too.

Never! Never combine the books! Do you remember how badly they messed up the Percy Jackson movie? They made the movie all about finding the pearls, which were goven to them in the books, and left out the entire Cronus plot. Annabeth had brown hair, they were all 17 rather than 12, Grover was cool, and there was a hydra that they weren't supposed to fight until the second book. Those are just a few among many problems. Now imagine combining books 1 and 2 on top of that. I rest my case.

BTW, have you heard that they're actually planning on turning the second book into a movie also? NO! They've already ruined the first book. Must they ruin the rest of the series???!!!!

Oh god, I hope they don't do that... :P
The only movies I've ever watched that had the same amount of detail as the books was the Lord of the Rings, and even those movies took out scenes! (lol, how do you take out scenes when it's four hours long? :P)

That movie was a disaster.... ): I guess that's another reason not to combine the AF movies.

(Always remember the Percy Jackson movie adaptation, moviemakers. Always. lol)

Don't forget Eragon. Wth was Durza doing riding that shadow-dragon-thingy?

So, if the producers combine the books, they might have to much to work with. Plus, if they did, they would have to mush up things here and there.
ok.
