Should They Combine The First and Second Book?

Which actors would you like to cast? What do you want to see? What would you do if you were the director?

Should They Combine The First and Second Book?

Post by artymon » Mon 9th Nov 2009

I'm sure many of us have heard that the people in charge of the Artemis Fowl movie have been toying with the idea of combining AF1 and AF2 in the same movie.

Question is, should they?

I personally think no. We would be getting cheated out of the book anyhow, we know if they were to make one book into a movie, they'd still cut out scenes add scenes, and play around with it, like the Harry Potter movies. I seriously don't want to see how badly they'd mutilate Artemis Fowl by tossing two books into one film. It seems outright sloppy and illogical.

Your thoughts..?

They can barely fit one book into a movie, I think they are morons if they do it.

I know!

It's utterly ridiculous! It'd be like this, ten minutes into it Holly's kidnapped and at half an hour she'd be free, end book one start on book two where they're more than less going to focus on the more action packed scenes of the goblins blowing up Haven...

It's wiser, both for their own wallets and our entertainment, if they just kept the two books a separate movie.

Fully agreed! The movie will hardly be worth it if they screw it up that badly!

I am certain that Iǘ e heard that they're going to do it regardless. I do wonder how they're going to manage that, but alas, I'm not a director, merely a writer xD
I think too that they should focus on one book first. It would be interesting to see Artemis' change through the movies, just like we can see in the books.

I agree with Meo.
Arty does a lot of growing up between book one and book two, and we'd miss all of that if they combined it into one movie. Obviously, time passes between them--I just can't imagine Root forcing Holly to go back to spy on Fowl Manor right after she'd gotten out. That time period in between is vital to the story and the characters, and it would be a bad move on their part to cut it out.

Maybe they would do the buy-your-popcorn break in the middle to make up for the lost time xD

Heck no.

Do that and you end up with something like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, where they combined three books into one storyline. There is a difference between the two and they would miss out on way too much.

*Screams* no!!! If they do then I shall personally make sure they never enjoy fathers day (or mothers day?) ... dye their hair pink ... force them to read my brother's handwriting ... make them suffer a month of my company.

Because, for one: that would be baaad... they would be making everyone confused... they would be like the monsters who messed up the harry potter movies... and the fangathering crew shall kill them. Or at least stalk them.

And, for two: How? Just that: how would they combine it?
What? I am so not psycho.

The problem is though, the first book would be sorta difficult to extract enough content for a movie. However, the second one has more than enough content...

So, nao we be stuck with a problem >.>

This room seems to have died recently but never mind. I agree. Maybe Colfer should have a look at what his fans want every now and again. It would have to cut alot of scenes to fit the two in... What phased him to want to do that? They really messed up Harry Potter, I don't want them to mess up Artemis Fowl too...
