According to this article Jim Sheridan is set to be the director

Jim Sheridan, the Oscar-nominated director, is currently writing the screenplay for the first movie adaptation with Colfer, with a view to directing the multi-million-euro project.

?I am working on the script outline with Eoin who spent a lot of time with me in Dalkey (where the director lives) recently,? said Sheridan.

Has anyone else heard this rumour?? :unsure:

Well Artemis Fowl is pretty much a fantasy adventure, so they have to use lots of computer animation. I don't think that means that the whole thing would be animated, though.

I'm thinking the "animation" part is about the trolls, etc. You know, those weird creatures in Artemis Fowl.

I think Peter Jackson should direct Artemis Fowl. You know, the guy who directed The Lord of the Rings. He's really good at action movies. (if you didn't see the Lord of the Rings, see it now)

I honestly don't think his style would trnafer over very well to Artemis Fowl...and on a personal level I find his films, although visually pleasing aree lacking in other ways... his actors never seem quite to knwo what they're doing (at least in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
I'm currently really into David Fincher films (the ones I've seen at least: The Social Network and the film adaptation iof The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo*) he has a keen eye for deatails, his editing is very precise, the angles he choose are very effective. I'm not sure if he's made any folms geared more towards youngsters, but he has a knack for thirllers so in theory he would work as a director.

*I have not read the orginal books, nor do I plan to, I really only like the film for the direction in it.

To be honest I find him far over-rated. I've never found any of the films he's directed to be watchable outside a theater...Or in one. Artemis Fowl is pretty unique tone it doesn't need a grim dark makeover to make it better.
