Rules Regarding Clubs

Post by BlackOpal » Sun 16th Dec 2007

1. Anyone can join any club. You cannot restrict the members of your club no matter what. If a person wants to join, they are allowed to join. Selective membership easily divides a forum.
2. There are no leaders in the clubs. This can cause battles for power.
3. All club threads must be kept in the Clubs forum.
4. Whilst a club cannot deny a certain person entry, theys can however, have a list of members. If a member is inactive for a while, their name can be taken off the list.
5. Each person may only join three clubs.
6. All clubs will have to be approved by a moderator. To have an approved club visit the Club Application thread and put in your application. A moderator will approve it within a few days. Any threads that have not been approved will be locked.
7. If you would like to make a new club, make sure they follow the rules, are NOT a repeat, and will gain members.
8. I love xx clubs are not allowed. There is a general club, called The Loveless Fangirls that can be used as such. You can make an I love xx thread in the media forum, do not make it a club.
9. Please read the rules and guidelines (coming soon) before joining or making a club.

Why We Have These Rules

As much as these clubs are fun, they can also divide a forum.
Part of the reason I joined Fangathering, and stayed on the forum was because of the lack of cliques. On many other forums there are different groups that separate the members. These groups can become exclusive and sometimes mean. To a newbie it is extremely intimidating to join a forum where everybody belongs to a certain club that they can't be part of. We want to prevent this from happening.
However, these clubs are fun, and are a great way to make friends. You can chat in the threads about interests that others share.

It may seem a little overly-cautious, but take it from someone who has joined and left many forums, clubs can be a bad idea, and can be a very good idea. There's nothing worse than going onto a forum and being rejected by a club, while there's nothing better than being accepted and welcomed into a special group by people like yourself. We just want to make sure that we use the clubs in a good way.

Re: Rules Regarding Clubs

There are new rules regarding clubs.
The club forum has become cluttered with a few more pointless clubs. These new rules will help improve that. There is now an approval system, a moderator has to give your club the go-ahead before it will be seen on the site.
Also, I love xx clubs are no longer allowed. You are welcome to make a thread about a certain fiction character, but they don't need to be clubs, they are fine as regular discussions.
Guidelines will be released shortly about how to create a better club.

These new rules are just to make sure that clubs remain clubs and things that don't need to be clubs aren't. It also means that you can use your three clubs to join three good clubs instead of three random clubs that would be equally good as a thread.

Have fun. :D
