Only about 50% of your intelligence is genetic. I suppose Artemis got that bit from his parents. The other 50% of your intelligence comes from your environment. I think mabe the reson Artemis is so intellligent and evil is because he has been independant for so long. Befor Artemis's dad left, he kind of gave Artemis a bad example.
When his dad left, and his mom took to her room, he had complete controle over his live. For those two years he hardly had a social life, which could explain why he is so cold and evil.

yup, you're right about his coldness. But I doubt that the 50% part of his intelligence is from the environment. He's just born that way :)

hE'S...

fantastic, sarcastic, nice deep in soul, genius, show=off

I think many have tried to describe him, and i don't think we'll get close.
Brilliant minds and psychlogists in teh book cannot overcome him. i think, just let the actions flow and describe him thorugh that

"How does one describe Artemis Fowl?"

Well, it's difficult.

He's neither one thing nor another. It is impossible to accurately pinpoint the exact colors of Artemis Fowl II's nature. However, one thing is for certain: He is a genius.

Artemis is neither extremely kind nor extremely cruel, he is an eclectic blend of each. His kindest actions border on saintly, and his harsher crimes border sadistic. He has an even tempered personality, preferring to devise plots to wage psychological warfare on his enemies. And as of all known accounts, he has never uttered a swear word.

Fowl likes to live in luxury-this is a given, considering his extremely wealthy status. He has even stated that he prefers suits over blue-jeans and T-shirts any day in The Opal Deception.

Artemis Fowl is also extremely cultured. When going to the opera, it is said that he can direct the score "note by note." His interest in architecture and art betray this, as well as his fondness for expensive Irish spring water and his lack of fondness for dessert.

All in all, Artemis Fowl is an enigma. One that even the great centaur Foaly cannot accurately describe.

And yes, he's hot.

As a writer myself, I know what I'm talking about when I say, that was impressive. Have you checked out KWC or YWS?

H.O.T ;)

That sounds about right. I was going to be like any other fan girl and be like, sexy. Hot works too. Though I definately would not describe Artemis is nice. He may have a soft spot for a few people, but nice he is not.

I agree. Not soft, just... Growing up? being smart does not mean you have the experience. Artemis stated that himself in book 5.

And very very very hot!

We should have some kind of "League of the fangirls of Artemis Fowl the Second"

By the way, very nice post, Minerva.

Why, thank you everyone.

But one of the main points (that I did not touch upon already) was that intelligence is a heavy burden. That's what made him (and eventually myself) become just a little...frostbitten.

Artemis is the way he is because he simply has no contemporaries. In some ways his superb intellect is a handicap, at least in terms of normal relationships. He is alienated from his so-called-peers because of intelligence, and of course adults aren't going to show him any respect because he is an adolescent. An anomaly, perhaps, but still. Who listens to a kid?

(OMG...I'm quoted in a signature. How cool.)
