No animals on earth gets even close to the age of a fairy. So unless fairies are an entirely new branch of creatures, the only thing that really seperates them from other animals (humans included under animals) is that they have magic. So I would assume that it's the magic which grants fairies a long life. This rule would most likely apply to Artemis as well.

Edit: Just relized what I say doesn't completely make sence since all fairies doesn't have magic.

Artemis doesn't have that much magic because he used it all with the demons. So he onlty has a little left and he is probably going to use it to erase his parents memorys or make himself look older and make his parents think that he was there the whole 3 years that he was really gone.

But I still think that if Artemis had powers forever that would be so cool.

How old are Arty's parents? I always thought that they were like 40 or 50 years. But I guess they are younger because his mom just had twins.
Here we go Holly. Are you ready?"
"Artemis! I'm the field agent here," came the irritated reply. "Stay off my band unless you have somthing to contribute."
"I was just thinking---"
"I was just thinking that you should change your middle name to Contol Freak."Artemis glanced across at Butler, who was lying beside him and couldn't help overhearing the entire exchange.
"Control Freak? Can you believe that?"
"The nerve of some people," replied the bodygaurd without taking his eyes off the chateau.

"Magic he realized. Magic is in the mind. Now this was something worth knowing. Artemis retreated to his own mind-space, but he took a sample of the blue plasma with him." page 292

He only took a sample of the blue plasma. It seems to me that the sample he took was not the magical energy but perhaps more like the ability to use magic. Or else the sample magic wouldn't really matter when they needed more magical creatures, since the power originally came from Holly/No1/Qwan. So it would really only count as three magical creatures.

"Now you know. You are changed. A magical creature like us. I hope you will use your gift wisely." page 319

Here it's stated that Artemis is now a magical creature. His magica might go empty like other creatures, but there should be a way to refill it now, right?

"Artemis realized there were sections of his brain opening up that hadn't been used by humans for millennia. He also realized that humans must have had their own magic once, but had forgotten how to use it." page 346

Out from this we can conclude that Artemis probibly has simply got the humans forgotten magic activated again.

So all in all I think Artemis's magical powers are permanent.

I dont know if anyone pointed this out already but at the end the book when Artemis learns about his siblings, I found it interesting that he did not state their gender. Is this Mr. Colfer leaving his options open?

I got another question too. About the Time sequence that happend with Artemis saving Holly, I read the other explicantions but i didn't think any really answered my question.

If you want look at page (337) in The lost Colony or read it here. This is when artemis finds the pattern in the bomb.

"...An hour per second for a count of forty, followed by a deceleration to thirty minutes per second for a count of eighteen, then a slight jump backward, one minute per second for a cound of two. Then it repeats."

What doesn't make since to me is when holly died along with the other two, lets say there was a second between the killings, then techniclly there was 1 hour, or 30 minutes between there deaths? and lets say that it was the last second in the count of 18, then when time jumped backward it would only go back a maximum of two minutes? Therefore not sending back to the time when Abbot killed Holly.

The whole thing is mind boggling for me so thanks for your time and thought.

Actually I was wrong, the subject was brought arond by MMK, but will some 1 still explain it to me please?

Hiiii peoples!!

Newbie here, and finished the LC in like, a day, but I absoloutly LOVEDed it... Arty's acting SO adorable as being the goody guy and Holly just kicks butt because she's cool like that...... B)

*sigh*

Eoin, you've did it again...I think its love  or maybe just the satisfaction of being able to read about my love (obviously Artemis)

...uh-oh obsession rambling. :banghead: Sorry about that.

Anyways bac on topic.

Minerva is who I had been expecting the whole time! Someone to match up with my little Arty...but a bit less so that he can teach her the meaning of life! *imagines self as Minerva* :P

And then obviously Foaly and his girlfriend are just sweet ^_^

So ya, but Holly/Arty just doesn't work out for me. I don't know why. We'll just have to wait and see. XD

Oh....and the twins.........well lets just say that I just can't wait for those two cuties (whichever gender they may be) to grow up and take over the world ;)

SO IMPATIENT!!!! But whatever the next book is gonna be about I don't care...I just want to read more!! :bringiton:

p.s. sorry if i'm off topic but I was just too lazy to read up on all those 7 pages *yawn*

k love you folks

Spartan, we discuss the issues with the time tunnel/ time trave in the time tunnel topic.

I don't think magic will affect Artemis's lifespan- does he need to age slower than normal humans, on top of the three years he missed?

I don't see why Artemis shouldn't be able to preform the ritual like any other magical creatue. Even if not, I'm sure he'll still be able to preform magic- I don't think Colfer would have given him magic only for the end of The Lost Colony. What I'm interested in is if, as a human, he has special abilities, since each creature has unique magical powers. I'm hoping for something we haven't seen before. Besides healing, the mesmer, or melting rope.

Don't sea turtles get relatively close. I guess not, they only live to be a hundred. Gah, whatever. Random rambling post. And yeah, since Mulch doesn't have magic anymore wouldn't it mean he would speed up in aging if it was the magic that made faeries age slowly. I kind of am hoping Artemis will age slower just because I am a Holly/Artemis shipper, but whatever happens will work for me.

As amazing as Lost colony was, I agree with whomever said it felt a little more rushed then usual. Eoin's like Artemis and Foaly in the way that he explained averything out in detail eventually, but never when you want him too. He didn't really do that in LC. There are too many holes.
Minerva was just perfect. She was no suprise sinse my friend told me what was happening BEFORE I READ IT! *glares at Foaly007* but it still cracked me up. JUST what the world needs. A female Arty. Oy vey. We didn't see as much of Foaly to suit me, but the tidbit on his girlfriend was genious.
When Holly Died, I'll be honest, and you'll all think me a sentimental fool, but i cried. I cried so much, I coulnd't read the dam* book. I had to put it down, stop meself from crying and force myself to stop hating Artemis for letting her die, comvince myself he had SOME sort of plan and continue reading. I think I may have left some splotches on 007's book. My bad.

But I digress...

Well, I think that what oops i forgot... spartan, was it? about the time unravelling, with its acceleration per second for a count of forty.. or something like that (i'm sorry, i'm doing this without reference) If Mr. Eoin Colfer publish it, then it makes sense, so I think we shouldn't really bother about that. Just let it wash pass you, as long as you understand what it means, in essence.

I wonder, what more possibilities could open if the twins were girls or guys? they might even be girl guys. OR something.

I too think that the book this time wasn't very well done like the rest. THe Minerva part was like a tide, fast, and without much action, but the Limbo part was great.

I'm also a HOLLY/ARTEMIS person, and i thought for this book they were so much more together than before. I read the whole series again in one day, and you can see their progress.

I was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED AND FLABBERGASTED when Artemis left Holly to die, but then I think he made it all worth while.

Artemis is going to have magic i think. I think the magic circle opened up his magic flow partially and since humans used to have this power, once Artemis got it up and running. He's going to be able to do the mesmer and stuff, isn't it COOL?

I think the Artemis /Holly having each other eyes is going to b every special... perhaps some power will come out from it.

I just got the book last night, but I finished the end first because my sister was so kind as to make me read the bathroom-in-a-firefight part. Then I started again this morning. Something that irked me a little bit in the beginning was all the beauty talk and that the humour was a little overdone in the wrong places. And it felt like fanfiction. (Not that fics are bad, just different.) Then it got interesting, but confusing ^_^

Minerva is a little Mary Sue, and I don't really see the point of Billy Kong. Though I might, in a reread. It was weird to see Artemis so good, I nearly didn't like it, because that loses a bit of the charm from the first book when it was all cold-overmature-genius, to me at least. Holly dying was a nice touch. Maybe if she'd really died there would be lots and lots of character development. But still. The book seemed to have the purpose of setting up a premise for H/A, and felt quite rushed. Butler with silver hair is nothing short of Weird with a capital W.

I liked No1. All in all, this is good. Great, even. One of the best things here is that you can actually feel how No1 felt about not warping. Emotions and characterization are loads better here.

 Holly kissed Butler????? What the.... weird describes that.

I love Arty's magic.  I want it too!!!

I agree with you! I mean, I automatically love the book, but Minerva IS a bit Mary-Sueish. It kind of rang as fanfiction, like you said.

I HATE that Artemis is so...blatantly good now. There's not even a spark of what I first found enthralling about his books.

Is there such a thing as Holly/Butler shippers? Because then they'd be happy about it.

I've read some before..... on Fanfiction.Net, so, well, don't even ask me how anatomically-incorrect those pieces were. :nope: They're worse than Holly/Juliets. Oh, that exists too, freakily, along with Artemis/Holly/Juliet triangles.

:vomit: I didn't mean to read them!! No!! It's not my fault my brain has been scarred...
