^ Oh no. She needs answers. *I* need answers.

A polite knock rattled on the door.
‘It’s open!’

The door opened, a man standing in the doorway. One of the professors, obviously scheduled for nightly routine checks in the dormitories of the college. He wasn’t the regular one, however, their Dorm Patron was away at the moment.
‘Pardon the intrusion, Lass, but….’ He scowled when he saw the blonde, ‘You shouldn’t be in here, lad, you know that.’
‘It’s not lights out yet. Plus, you know, college. We’re not children, professor.’
‘I know that, lad, but the college has it’s rules.’
The blonde sighed, dropping his UNO cards and looking slyly at his friend, ‘Ah well, you heard him sweet, no time to play cards.’
‘Oh you cheeky little--!!!’
The professor cleared his throat, ‘—Now now, lass, easy on the sailors tongue. Now, speaking of… I saw someone slinking about up here. You haven’t seen a strange lass up here, have you?’
The two exchanged looks, playing dumb, ‘No?’
‘We’ve been in a heated battle of colours and numbers, professor. Do you really think we had time to look outside for a woman?’
He eyed them suspiciously, grunted, then turned to leave, ‘Be out by 10, lad, and I’ll say nothing.’
The blonde man saluted dramatically, though a gratefulness did reach him. And a tone of suspicion. ‘Thank you, Professor.’
The man turned and left, though the pair didn’t relax until his footprints were gone.

They turned to the bedroom door, ‘Coasts clear, darling.’
The door opened slowly and the other woman came out, looking relieved, ‘That was way too close.’

^Curiouser and curiouser

The streets of Los Angeles were a jungle as comparable to any found in South America, a maze of routes winding through popular haunts, dozens of devious demons determined to devour you, all under the baleful eye of the watchful Sun glaring a harsh judgment down upon you.
Given the choice, Livia would take jaguars, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, angry howler monkeys, mammoth pythons, lions, tigers, and bears any day of the week over the feral beast known as Man.
It was spectacularly delightful to watch how the students and professors alike fled from the University once the clock struck five on Saturday.
Tick tock tick tock, who's afraid of an old dead clock?
To be fair, they were probably late for an incredibly imperative chemistry session that involved mixing alcohols of varying potency with chasers and imbibing profusely.
Further merriment came upon discovering how easy it was to stroll the halls with nary a soul to question her belonging. The only hindrance came via the locked door of the Dean, which really, was only a momentary lapse when one came prepared with a hairpin and pocketknife.
Inside the office, she swiftly strode to the sizable filing cabinet, boldly breaking open the lock and flicking through the files.
There was a name in here...somewhere...she would find it...she didn't know who, but she would know when she found it. What the name meant, or where it would lead to, she was as much in the dark as Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil), like sailors of the ancient days, she was making it up as she went along.
At least until a hand grabbed the back of her hair, pulling back to allow for the curved point of the cold steel to prod her tautly exposed neck. Hot breath fell on her ear from a hissed whisper like a venomous snake.
"You've a lot of nerve to be showing yourself back here."

^ ... WELL. THAT TOOK A TURN. THEN WHAT?

‘Well, would you care to enlighten us to your delightful visit this evening? The blond steepled his fingers, leaning his chin on them.
The brunette scowled, ‘Are you playing UNO?’ She looked at their female companion, ‘Is he trying to skip out on you?’
‘In fact, yes, he refuses to play—‘
‘—I did not!’ He protested, looking offended, ‘Betrayed by both of you, I am hurt.’
‘Get a band-aid, nerd.’ The French woman teased, standing, ‘Now Cherie, on to you. What was that all about? Are you alright?’
‘Aye. Just got a little too close.’
‘To what?’
‘His ship.’
Roxanne, the French heiress, looked intrigued and shocked in one look, ‘You mean to say…’
She pulled out a lipstick from one of her pockets and showed Roxanne the worn down stub, ‘I owe you a new one, love.’
Roxanne’s eyes widened, ‘Oh you didn’t…’
‘Lady Gemini said ‘hello’.’

^Patience, grasshopper. Ahh, I love our merry band of dorks.

Her heart skipped a beat, though not from any fear of being in danger. In this world, she was the danger. Anyone else that got in her way was to be considered endangered, like the asteroid to the dinosaurs.
And indeed, it was only a beat her heart skipped; upon realizing she had mistaken the identity of her audaciously amateur assailant, that lapse of tender warmth turned tide to fearsome fiery rage.
Alliterations. She was thinking in alliterations. She hated alliterations.
Easily, she twists the hand holding the weapon at her throat, causes it to drop, smashes her foot atop the attacker's, and spins around.
The weapon clatters to the ground with a metallic twinge and she's able to register in the back of her mind it as not a knife, as she had initially, but rather a hook.
Strange.
Facing her attacker in the gloom, she was met with an angry male sporting long blonde hair.
Luscious locks, like a lion's mane, Mary Jane.
My name's not Mary Jane, bird brain.
But it rhymes, like a train.
You're an idiot.
Aw, thanks. You're a jerk.
B*tch.

A flash of an old conversation, like a flick of a passing ghost reflected in a black pool lit by the midnight moon.
She frowned. Her assailant reminded her every bit of an angry Viking, long hair, big build, angry blue eyes nearly the color of a gas burner, yet she was unable to help dispose of the image of him as a typical hippy surfer.
Though the anger, rage, spite, that she felt seething off him was far beyond the casual capacity a beach bum was able to muster, even on the worst of days when the waves are minimal and sharks preying for a snack.
"You sound surprised."
Instinct told her this was someone she knew, or used to know. Why did she feel as though being betrayed by her brain was a blessing? As if her memory was hiding something from her.
"Oh we're past that, babe," he sneered, fist curled.
Like a shot from a starter pistol, she was triggered, almost visibly, her blood boiled, vision clouded with blind rage.
"Don't call me babe," she warned, carefully enunciating each word to be clear he heard her. "I don't want to destroy you, but I will if I have to."
A harsh, hollow laugh barked from the Hippy Viking.
"Destroy me...like you did Roxanne?"

^ WHAT?!?! Alright, I DEFINITELY need to know what the hell is going on.

The blond began laughing, guffawing, ‘Oh man, you were on his ship?! And you call me insane!’
Both the women turned, ‘Shut up, Nathan!’
Roxanne took her hand, ‘Well, don’t skip on the details while we’re harbouring a criminal. What happened?’
Liviana sucked in a breath, ‘Well, you know… it’s Nathan’s fault, really.’
Nathan scowled, ‘My fault? How in the devils name is this my fault?!’
Liviana simply held up her phone, pressing the button on the side to illuminate the screen, which showed a message from Nathan asking if she was coming to play cards.
Nathan winced, but still had a grin stretched on his lips, ‘Look, to be fair, I had no idea.’

(Sorry, work again..)

^Wait wait wait, how does Nathan politely inviting Livy to a card game equate to her deciding "Eh, I'd rather go trespass and marauder my professor's ship"????

(I'm hearing excuses, what about you, Joey?)

A twinge in the throat, or that light sting on the nostrils when you try to sneeze and can just feel it on the tip of the nose. There was something there, she tried hard to will it out, maybe if she could get this one piece of the puzzle, the rest would mentally unlock.
Illogical. If the memory was gone, that was it. She couldn't just tease it back. Or perhaps she didn't want them back.
The name may once have meant something, now it was as ordinary as Carol or Gwen or Chastity.
Just a name.
Just a dream...
Her instincts didn't like the man before her and she twisted her face in a countenance of dark amusement.
"Hah, Roxanne?" she sneered. "Pornstar or stripper? What's her specialty - double teaming?"
The words meant nothing to her...so why did she feel as though she had to justify it to herself?
They had the reaction she was hoping for, incurring the wrath of the angry wannabe Viking, who bared his teeth like a mad wolf, eyes glowering. But he didn't lunge.
He must have sensed she had stealthily gripped the metal stapler on the desk and planned to bash his brains in with it. Assuming the muscle bound brute had any brains to bash.
With the vibrant energy of a shuttle on countdown to blast off, he shook.

Down the hall, one of University's esteemed professors was roaming with aimless attitude. The aimlessness derived from an excruciating block of grading term papers that had been in lieu for what felt like twenty eight years.
Man he wished he had taken up on that job in Antigua. Fresh air, crystal blue water. Plenty of distractions.
Passing Weittezel's office, he noticed shadows inside and he frowned. Weittezel wouldn't be caught dead working this late...and there appeared to be two forms.
Must be a dare....
Hopefully it wasn't another set of hormonally imbalanced students looking to thrill themselves in the Dean's office. That had been awkward.
Taking a breath, he gave the door a stern rap, giving the pair inside a chance to become decent.
"Hello? Who's in there?"
Twisting the knob, he pushed the door in.

Livy's sneer widened.
"Not much for talking, are you? Or did your precious little Roxanne suck all the brains you had out through - "
Someone at the door.
She didn't like this, there were too many unknowns closing in.
The Hippy Viking seemed surprised too and glanced over at the slowly opening door.
"Dr. Jones."
"Nate. What're you doing in here?"
Swiftly turning his head back, he saw she had disappeared, like a ghost.

^ oh ho ho. Weittezel as Dean? And slandering Roxy like that? What on earth is going on???

(And it was more he sent the text while she was there that alerted the pirates to her presence.)

Liviana sighed, ‘Aye, but that’s beside the point.’ She unlocked the screen to go into the photos and showed the pair the photos of her handiwork.
‘Oh my god, he will kill you.’ Nathan giggled like a deranged child, ‘How did you escape?’
Roxanne slapped his arm, ‘You’re far to excited, Cherie, I thought you’d be drained.’
‘Don’t want to now.’ Liviana proceeded to delete the incriminating photos, ‘Now I have to get out of here before the professor catches me. He knows I’m not a dorm student and even if he doesn’t know, he can check the registry.’
‘And he’ll take you with him.’ Nathan said, following her train of thought.
‘Exactly. If he has me in when his boys call—‘
‘—Sh sh.’ Roxanne gently placed a hand on Liviana, ‘Did you hear something?’
They all went silent. Moving toward the door, silently opening it. Like the three stooges, they popped their heads out, and Nathan turned off the main light to not give themselves away.
Down the hall, they could hear something. Roxanne must have heard the first shout.
‘Search that entire ship, do you hear me?! Find that crate or someone will get plunged for bait, do you hear me?! No, I don’t—Do you not understand English, mate? Find the crate, or her. I want her dead. I’ll be there as soon as I can.’
Shivers ran down Liviana’s spine. Nathan pulled both the women back in and shut the door.
‘Alright, I hate to be right but… You can’t leave that way, Liv.’ Nathan said, showing a rather serious side, ‘If he catches you—
‘—He has no idea it was me.’
‘Is that a risk you want to take?’

THE SCREEN GOES BLACK.
A NARRATOR ON THE TV SAYS, ‘Next week, on ‘Golden Shores.’
You groan aggressively, you want to know what happens next now, not next week.
"People are gonna tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta punch back and say, "No, this is who I am". You want people to look at you differently? Make them! You want to change things, you're gonna have to go out there and change them yourself, because there are no fairy godmothers in this world." - Emma Swan, Once Upon A Time.

^Such a tease!

The following snippet runs parallel to the other story in a separate Universe.

"So what's the plan, Jan?" Livy said, casually strolling through the grounds one final time, taking in the fresh air. It was like a convict being released, while he may have been allowed time in the yard, it wasn't the same being outside the walls, having nothing to hold you back.
Very refreshing.
"Go home. Eat some food. Definitely have to drink something. Then possibly indulge in some Uncharted; there's this one level that's been murdering me, could use your help if you're up for it," Nathan answered, tugging the collar of his shirt, loosening the tie, wondering who the devil thought of such an infernal contraption.
Livy shook her head.
"No, I mean...what's the plan, what next?"
Avoiding her gaze, he chose to observe the other graduates who seemed so far off, smiling and hugging, oozing with glee as they happily chatted.
The question terrified him a bit if he were to be honest with her.
"Dunno. Making this up as I go. Part of me still wonders if we should have just bought that ship five years ago and sailed the world. I could put in for some jobs in Hollywood, though I feel like that'd be dime a dozen, and even then, not as fun as I had imagined. Damn Spielberg for making it look so easy," he chuckled. "With the degree though, I could get my CFI, build a thousand hours, then head to a regional. What about you?"
Overhead, a hawk cast a shadow before them, gliding over the field, no doubt carefully scanning for prey.
"I suppose in a way I've already gotten everything I need. Stability, a home, family even."
It was true, when she had started college, it had just been her and her mother, starting anew. Running into her former friend had been an unfortunate chance the latter used to make the best of, eventually developing a mellowness between the pair. Then discovering her father had right under her nose this whole time as one of the professor, unbeknownst to both father and daughter. And there was Colin...
With her ship and crew, there was very little to give cause to worry her.
"Probably travel. See the world."
"You see it every day," Nathan teased, ever the sh*t. "So how 'bout it?"
"Mm?"
"Uncharted?"
"Oh, can't, sorry, I promised Roxy I'd take her up on her spa offer."
Nathan cocked an incredulous eye.
"Oui?"
"Ja, why, is that a problem?"
Circling around the grounds, they came across the football field, both wondering if they had in fact ever attended a game here.
"Not with me, tell Roxy I said bonjour?"
Livy rolled her eyes.
"I will." She examined him, noting how his lips turned up in a cheerfully dreamy matter, his eyes glazed, thinking of the Heiress. "You really like her, don't you?"
Awakening, he snapped head at her.
"What makes you say that?"
"The way you talk about her or think of her, being you and baking a cake for her on Bastille Day, learning a language for her..."
He shrugged, nonchalant, secretly pleased.
"Learning is a bit strong, I'm definitely a long ways from fluent, though I could probably get around if she dumped me in France....or at least ask directions to the Eiffel Tower."
Livy chuckled.
"I'm not sure that's what ménage à trois means."
They finished their circuit, arriving back at the lot with the others, some had filtered off, driving off in their cars to dinner or a party or to sit home still amazed they managed to fool the University into passing them.
Our pair exchanges looks with the other.
Despite the trials and turmoils encountered, they had both loved and lost, had their share of losing. But they did what they had to and saw it through, each charted course, carefully planned.
Now it all seemed so amusing, to think they did all that, and did it their way.

Lazy afternoon.
He was lying on the couch, bored. There was nothing to watch on TV, aside from overly dramatic soap operas and 'reality' shows, interrupted by long and borderline annoying advertisements.
He could do some reading, but he didn't feel like it.
He checked his phone. No messages.
He could go outside, but who would want to be outside? The sun heated the city to the point that you could burn your feet just walking on the asphalt, shoes and everything.
Maybe internet.
Maybe writing, although he didn't feel much like that either.
Maybe a nap.
That sounded pretty good. Sadly, he didn't feel like that either.
Internet, he decided, getting up. Maybe he'll meet someone new today?
Three hours later, after doing both some minor tweaks to already written parts of stories and watching youtube videos, he met nobody new. The old forum of his, empty and lifeless.
The sun was setting on the horizon, taking the heat elsewhere. The air was still hot, but it was bearable.
He picked up his keys and went for a stroll.

(That actually sounds about accurate.)

Amidst the mists and the fiercest frosts with barest wrists and stoutest boasts, Felina thrusts her fists against the posts and still insists she sees the ghosts.

Arty looked out the window, through the bars and over the clear horizon, where his view was obscured by the smog of a distant city. The city was bleak after the invasion, not at all like the lively cultural center he knew years ago. Which isn't to say everything else wasn't bleak, but in the country at least there was a way to get away from the hard labor forced by their "benefactors". Arty leaned down, picked up his gear, and pushed his way out the heavy steel door. It was going to be a long revolution.

The beaked humanoid strolled through the crowds of the city, attracting some attention. Most people don't see stuff like that every day, so Taco attracted a fair amount of surprised looks.
But he was there on a mission!
Forces of darkness were rising, and an ancient sword of Mech Dushi was hiding somewhere in this concrete jungle.
In this... museum.
Highly secured museum.
He stopped in his way, staring at the enormous stone building, towering above him.
Welp.
Time to find a ninja.

Due to her incessant insistence, the local authorities had taken a personal interest in safeguarding Felina from her delusions of ghosts and posts - namely by locking her into an asylum.
That was fine, all part of the plan.
It was easier to do her work from the inside than breaking in from the outside.
Plus the pudding wasn't half bad.
At the eleventh hour, Felina set her plan into motion. Eleven was the best window she had. Ten or nine would be too early. As for midnight, unfortunately, most of the residents seemed to became significantly...agitated. Enough so to put the guards on edge.
And edged guards were sharp.
Felina had no intentions of being cut into.
So, with the namesake grace of a feline, she slithered from her room, picking the lock and taking stock of her surroundings.
Not much to see, a dark hallway with polish floors that glowed in the pale moonlight.
Perhaps if she were in a more romantic mood, Felina could con herself into describing the hall as being bathed in a diamond glow or a hallway of mirrors.
But she had a job to do.
Past doors leading to the other residents was a hall suspended twenty stories in the air by itself connecting into the neighboring building of the asylum.
Hooking around an L shaped hallway, Felina darted into a door a door at the end of the hall opened into a staircase. The stairs were white metal with the corners run with bits of dark safety rubber. The contrasting materials gave cause for her to pause and smirk.
The rooms are padded, might as well pad the stairs , she blithely thought to herself.
Actually, she wished they were padded - carpet always made for quieter creeping.
She needn't worry though; the guard above was soundly sleeping.
The top of the asylum was capped with a tower, not quite a DnD brick and mortar, fire breathing dragons guarding a hapless princess tower.
Rather, the ascending floors narrowed into a rectangle that stretched high into the sky like an accusing finger.
The faux tower only allowed for four rooms per floor and allotted a single guard to idly crush candy and swipe singles.
Child's play to weave through them.
At least until her foot found a delightful crack in the flooring on the landing of the next level.
Creak!
Blast.
She was saying?
The guard, a small, scrawny twig of a person, whipped a weedy head around, his eyes narrowed to slits that bespoke thin plant stems.
He looked like a wallflower, alright?
Felina was fairly confident she could take him.
Sticking to the shadows like cement glue on a freshly painted and waxed car bonnet, Felina willed her body to merge with the wall, with the enveloping darkness.
Fingering her pocket, she made a quick inventory.
Some loose change, a combination pen and light, stick of glue (used to cap her fingers and hide their unique prints), a disposable floss stick (mint flavored), and a paperclip.
She needed a lure. Something to direct Wallflower's attention.
The coins would do the trick....though they might be too loud. And by being too loud, sound too obvious. Too human. And if there's one thing humans don't do, it's lose money.
Even the most cynical of so called educated and informed citizens that complain the cost of a coin's production outweighs their face value will bend for a penny.
So no.
Something to draw, but not inspire any suspicion.
The paperclip was an excellent runner up, it would generate a delicately delicious ting! that could just as easily be mistaken for a tiny screw falling out of place or perhaps a piece of wallpaper, perhaps on the floor above an inmate was busily banging his bed in one fit or frenzy and managed to loosen something down here.
But the paperclip was too valuable as a tool for lockpicking, if inconvenient.
So on that train of thought (which took place in span of eighteen Plancks), Felina withdrew her floss stick and expertly flicked the plastic and wax string in the corner opposite her.
Plock!
The plastic resonated a little louder than she preferred, but it seemed to have done the trick as the Wallflower crinkled his eyebrows like vines, confusion sprouting.
A pale hand composed of petals airily floated back to the butt of a baton.
Felina was only moderately disappointed he wasn't armed. Then she could have joked his pistil was resting on his pistol.
Again, perhaps if she were in the mood.
Holding her breath, Felina willed her heart to halt for just a second as the Wallflower passed in front of her.
He may have been thin, but holy Yggdrasil Wallflower was TALL.
Maybe she ought to just slip by while his back was turned...
Then she saw his taser and vicious grin spread and she thought, Nah.
Darting forward, she aimed a kick to his groin then whipped a hand around to snatch the taser off him.
Flicking a switch, she jammed the electrical implement into the fleshy part of his neck.
Wallflower jolted and jigged ( Dance of the Wallflower , she snickered). Withdrawing the weapon, Wallflower collapsed like a house of cards.
Aw, no more plant metaphors? Like wilted like a petunia left out in the cold?
At the tippy top ( of course it's the top, Felina thought, her calves burning. It's always the bloody top... ) she was pleased to see the guard there was sleeping.
Or faking.
Her footfalls yielded no sound as she neared the northwest room where she quickly worked the lock open and slipped inside where she found her target: An aged man in bed.
Not sleeping though.
He was bolt upright, seated cross legged on the flimsy mattress, eyes blandly boring a hole in the wall ahead of him.
Creepy.
For whatever reason, Felina thought of an old, worn book. The sort you saw and read about in cliched sword and sorcery magicky fantasy quests. Old, leather cover, bound in ancient string with pages that cracked like baked leaves in the summer.
(She was still on a plant kick, okay?)
"Hey," she said, her voice low, snapping a finger to draw attention.
Astute, the Old Man slowly turned his eyes to her. Then turned back to the wall, apparently finding it more fascinating.
Frowning (and slightly affronted), Felina tries again.
"Hey McFly. Over here, buddy."
This elicits a similar response.
For good measure, she waves, hoping to reel in the remainder of his attention.
"I'm an old man," he gleefully informs her, as if revealing a great truth hidden among a clever joke.
"Yeah, uh huh," she acknowledges, wondering if his high pitched squeal would wake the guard from his slumber. "Look, I need your ring."
While the majority of his demeanor practically screamed senile old man minutes from growing mold, a muscle near his eye twitched, betraying a faintly buried cask of intelligence that gradually allowed itself to trickle out.
"What're you going to pay me for the ring?
"Pay you?!" Felina repeated, aghast, nay outraged! "PAY you? I'm going to get you out of here. I think your ring is fair recompense."
Tittering, the Old Man shook his head. "Oh no, I rather fancy it here. The pudding is particularly pleasing."
Felina sighed, vying to starve her frustration off.
"Then look, if you're not using the ring, just let me have it. I can return it if you want."
"I want payment," the Old Man repeated.
"Father Antos sent me," Felina articulated significantly, as though the name alone would inspire awe. Sadly she was mistaken.
"Did he send gold?"
"....he gave me his blessing."
"....but no gold?"
Gritting her teeth, Felina rolled her eyes.
"Fine, how much do you want?"
"Gold pieces," the Old Man clarified. "Forty gold."
"Oh yeah, I've got some right here," Felina claimed, digging a hand in her pocket, rattling the coins.
Deftly, she slid three non-gilded coins between the cracks of her fingers. Makeshift knuckles. Sure, they weren't as potent as real brassknuckles, but they'd do the trick.
"Let's see..." the Old Man wheezed, excitement spiraling sporadically.
Coyly, Felina clutched her closed fist close to her chest, possibly posing to harbor doubts over delivering her hard fetched gold.
"Right...HERE!"
Rapid as a rattlesnake, she struck the Old Man.

(Okay, that's all for now, if no one else posts over the next few days, I might go back and add more...)
