Is an assonance a rhyme?

Erm... It's when you have several words next to each other with the same vowel sound in the middle... so I suppose that what you put was actually a rhyme. XD An example of assonance might be: A good cook stood there with a hook... but that's not the best of examples. XD

I learned something new today. I think I use that all the time (I think).
Let me try! :D

It was time to find a new moon.
Yes, a moon that was not blue, but rather, black.

(Oi. >.<)

Assonance reminds me of Emily Dickinson, one of my favorite poets.

That's a gret example! :D Although I'm afraid that I've never hear of Emily Dickinson before... ><

Well, she is old and dead, and was severely reclusive, and wrote her poems all over her house (like...on the walls) and not one of them had a title...o.o

I had to sing one of her poems last year in chorus, let's see if I remember it..

Exhilaration is the breeze
That springs up from the ground
And takes us to another place
Whose statement is not found.
But after time, but after time,
Returns us not but after time,
We soberly descend
Exhilaration is the breeze.

o.o I think I totally messed it up...

Ignore that whole poem right there. Have you heard of the nobody poem?
"I'm nobody. And you?
Are you a nobody too?
How dreadful it is to be
If you were a Somebody."

It is quite queer, and interesting, and I'm pretty sure I messed that poem up too. XD
Look at me! o.o I'm jabbering away! (Jabberwocky! ahem...) I'll stop now.

I've read the Nobody poem :) We had to analyze it back in seventh grade, I think that was. I had forgotten that was one of hers.

While we're talking poems, what do you guys think of Poe?

Ah, Poe. I know him. His poems are freaky and awesome, but I haven't read much of them.
Practically everyone knows him (almost) and I find no fault to hate him for.

((This is something irrelevant))
Last year, I was in Speech and Debate club for a spell and I was told that every year, at least ONE person would read The Raven, and my friend was absolutely sick of it. Did it happen that year? Yes. :P
The only other poem I read from him was the Anna-Bell Lee one, and it was kinda nice, except the class of 7th graders at the time was too immature to handle the fact that the love of Poe's life was his cousin. X(

@Faeri: Even if you got it wrong, that's a nice poem! :D
@AA: I've certainly heard of Mr. Poe, but I'm afraid that again, I've never read any of his works. ><

^ You've read the first stanza of The Raven before, at least XD

"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore
As I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door"
And then later "darkness there, and nothing more"

XD From my Halloween signature

Nothing more...nothing more...nothing more. That line is practically etched in my brain, and is the only memory of anything from the Raven. XD
Echo...echo...
I love that line.
Nothing more...
