How Did You Find Out About Artemis?
Hey how did all of u find out about the books?
Personally in Primary school we had a book club (i would hav been about 11) and we had a tape of the first Arty book and we listened to the tape and/or read the book or just listened 2 the tape. I did both! Anyway we had got to the part where they had got 2 the sprite 'witch doctor' and i was REALLY into it, but after that we didnt read any more of it. So that was it for about a year until i was 12.
I saw it in the library and i remembered about it from primary school (i was in secondary school by then) so i took it out and read it all. As i gradually discovered all the characters (cheesy as this sounds) I became friends with them through the books and i developed a strong admiration for Artemis, Butler, Holly and Foaly. By the time i was reading the other books i was crying, laughing, smiling, blushing (and swearing sometimes) with all of them. My crush on Arty became deeper and deeper (i dont think it will ever reach a climax wiv me)
So thats how i discovered a long-hidden fascination wiv Eoin Colfer and his books.

Quite a story
Good thing you spotted it that day
I first found out about it when a book shop came to our school on World Book Day. One of my friends was buying it, and he told me it rocked! I read the back, and just knew i wanted it (an impulse. I get alot of them )
So i bought it, loved it and bought the others asap
That was about 4 years ago i think.
btw - I made this into a new thread, as its a whole new topic of conversation

I first found out about Artemis Fowl when Newsweek was raving about it back in 2001 [I forget the year...].
Anyway, another friend of mine told me it's a great read, so there. I went to a bookstore, and my siblings and I bought all three at that time. We were quite lucky too, because that was the time when the rest of the world were still waiting for Eternity Code's release in May 2003[? not sure of the year], while the books were all abundant in my country. Yeah, lucky lucky. I don't know why we had an early release at that time.

I read "Artemis Fowl" the day it came onto the shelves of WHSmith. I saw it there, gleaming in a heavenly glow, and there was a little stand that said "if you liked Harry Potter, you'll love this!"
So I picked it up, started reading it when I got home, and didn't put it down until one in the morning when I'd finished it!
I then reread it on and off, died of absolutely shock when I saw "The Arctic Incident" on the shelves, and then started surfing the net. I made my fansite a little bit before TOD came out... and here I am!

Cool! B) I am so glad i can hang out wiv ppl who know what im talking about when i mention foaly, artemis, mulch or butler instead of just saying; Huh? Wah? Hmm? It gets annoying and ppl think im a bit weird. THAT IS AN INSULT 2 EOIN COLFER AND FOWL FANS!!! I say we start a revolution against ppl who dont know about Artemis Fowl and co.
Yeah and if they dont take notice...
And if they REALLY get on our nerves we can...
and we can smash up their video games and computers
And if they still dont listen...
end eventually we will...
:grr: :biggun: HAHA sweet revenge!!!

Careful, FAB... You might scare the little kids away, hehe.
But you know what, I think that I like the fact that not everybody's crazy about Artemis Fowl. I have this tendency that when something gets really mainstream, I kind of get irritated because back then when it wasn't famous, it felt good to have it all to yourself...It was exclusive--it was yours. That's a nice feeling too, you know.
But when something gets famous, and everyone now talks about it... that just gets kind of irritating sometimes. People follow trends and just love stuff at the moment. It just sucks to know that there are those who just blindly embrace such trends and not actually love those things. They like this book or that film because it's the hottest thing at the moment. It sucks. <_<
[Do I make sense here? haha..]

I half agree Darvit. When it comes to people just following the crowd, youre completely right
It makes no sense to me. Why force yourself to love something you dont actually like?
But when something is popular, it has loads more real fans, which means more people to talk to, and in the case of books, movies etc. it means there will be sequels! I like that part of it

From watching the Harry Potter films, Im sure that encouraged some people to go out and buy the books if they had never read them? (I know that JKR brought loads of people back to reading )
The Artemis movie is bound to make the books more mainstream. I guess we'll just have to deal
btw - Damn right Artemis fans rock!

OMG finally people who understand me!! I've ages trying to explain to my friends and family about Artemis Fowl and the characters and how each has changed throughtout the book, but all i get is "right.... i care because" or "you need a life" or "i cant believe your so pathetic that you learnt how to read gnommish" etc. I know it sounds werid but i feel as if the various characters in the book are like friends to me. And when the Harry Potter movies came out, i felt as if i had lost one of my closest friends, because of all the merchandising and "fans" who only watched it for the actors. And the same will probably happen if they make an Artemis Fowl movie.
I know this sounds very pathetic but in by defense.... well i have nothing as my defense. Anyway at least with any book turned into movie there are a few good things such as people begining to read more.
Oh and at least we can say we loved Artemis before it was "cool".

"you need a life"
Ive heard those lines a million times, and tbh, i dont give a toss
I like reading AF, and im going to keep on doing it nomatter what anyone says
If i do something my friends would find sad or whatever, well meh, i just dont talk about it with them
So much more fun when you find people like you
Michelle - I guess you and darvit have the same feelings about the movie. Im not sure how exactly ill find it, but if theres a movie, it means ill have photos, and tonnes more content that i can get up on the site. That has to be a good thing!

I discovered the Artemis Fowl books last december. I've been a part of the Harry Potter craze and, having finished the last book, went in search of something new to read to hold me over till potter #7. Low and behold, I found Artemis Fowl. I think Harry Potter has moved to second favorite now BTW, I'm 28 years old, I catch alot of slack for the books I prefer but, I dont much care what others think.

I first got to know about AF from the Internet. First I had been intrigued by the title, then I got to know what it's about. I was reading first chapters of every three books on artemisfowl.com almost every day (it was the time when TEC had to be released), and my obsession grew with each next sentence.
And AF was nowhere to find in my city!!!
And finally, after at least few months, I spotted those shiny titles on a shelf in one of the bookstores... my heart jumped! I needed few more minutes to make sure if it's really AF, cos I couldn't believe it just like that. I grabbed these books almost with tears in my eyes...
I was mislead by all opinions like " a great story of a boy who cannot escape from his world full of fairies:, or " a great story for Harry Potter fans". I read AF, and it turned out to be totally different from what I've imagined... it turned out to be good. GREAT, in fact!!! B)

Thats why i love play.com etc. Theyre EVERYWHERE
You dont like those descriptions? How would you describe them?
